Since 1991 the Marion County Surveyor has determined precise State Plane coordinates of section corners and aerial photography control points, utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite technology.

It is our hope that surveyors and engineers will provide 2 section corner or State Plane coordinates on all plans and plats submitted to Marion County or the City of Indianapolis.  This will greatly improve our efficiency in maintaining the GIS maps.

Coordinates are available in Indiana State Plane, East Zone 1301 (NAD83, NAVD88) meters, International Feet, and US Survey Feet.  The naming convention for section corners in Marion County is:

    TTRRSSPP where:
      TT = Township
      RR = Range
      SS = Section
      PP = Position (corner)

    e.g. 04020101:
       Township 4 North
       Range 2 East
       Section 1
       Position:
         NW Corner of NW Quarter

 1 m = 39.37 in exactly

Int'l foot

1 in = 2.54 cm exactly

1 m = 39.370078 in

To get US Survey feet from meters, multiply meters x 3.280833333
To get International feet from meters, multiply meters x 3.280839895
